City Stream Covered In Ice

It’s been now 50 days since I have started this photography project! I want to thank everyone who has got involved, shared and liked my pictures. I hope that the other 315 days are going to be even more exciting, inspiring and creatively driven. I want to thank you for being supportive and convincing me that you care about such a beautiful city!

So far it has been EPIC! I’m now confident that this project will help others to look at Sittard from a different perspective and hopefully it will shine a light to the corners that would otherwise be overlooked.

Thank you all!

Amazing day today! It almost felt like one of those days in February where it get’s sunny and the day is nice and warm, like the beginning of a spring! In a day like this I go for a walk. I went to Kollenberg and thought of taking picture of the Rosa Kapel. Little did I know that the sun is going to shine through the branches of the trees, creating this beautiful sunset scene. I set the camera and closed the aperture to f/22 to get rid of as much of the chromatic aberration as possible and I tried couple of exposures. It came out nice! I like the sun shining from the side and giving just enough light on the Rosa Kapel side wall.

I hope that you like it too. If you do, please give it thumbs up and share it on Facebook.

Train Running With Sky On Fire

Today was probably the best sunset since I’m here in Sittard. I rushed back home from work so I wouldn’t miss it! I made myself a quick sandwich, grabbed my camera and was on the way to this place. The sunset was spectacular! I set my camera and saw train coming in a distance. I wanted the train to be in a motion so I thought of aperture of f/9.0, but then changed it to f/11 and that allowed me to go with the shutter speed lower. 0.6 sec came out perfectly! Second shot was an easy on! I exposed just for the sky and took a shot. Then I applied couple of tricks in Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS6 and came out with this shot.

I hope you like this picture, please if you do send it to your friends, share it on Facebook and give it a thumbs up.

Sunset From Molenweg Sittard

Have you seen the sunset today? I went for a walk to get some fresh air and suddenly from nothing the sky opened and the Sun came through. It was amazing to watch. I happened to be walking from Stadspark heading west to get on the Molenweg when I saw this. The river was reflecting the sky giving me some crazy colors. I thought, perfect timing! I wanted to take a shot from this spot long time ago but I knew I can come back when there is a better light. Today was the day when the light was perfect and I managed to take this shot.

I hope you like it too, please if you do you know what to do. Share it on Facebook and give it a thumbs up.

I love Lightroom 5! In my opinion, it’s one of the best and easy to use editing software out there. It’s powerful features let you to create amazing photos fast and in non destructive way. You can always come back to whatever adjustment you have made. This is not possible in Photoshop and other editing software’s. In Photoshop you can go back a couple of times but it’s annoying and not really practical as you loose other ¬†adjustments you have made afterwards.

I use lightroom for almost everything except sharpening and noise reduction. In this case Photoshop does a better job. Get your hands on Imagenomic noise reduction plugin. It does an incredible job recognizing what is noise and what belongs to the picture.¬†Long time back I used to edit entirely in Photoshop and it would take me hours to get rid of noise and adjust the photo to my needs. Now it’s entirely a different game! I love Lightroom 5

Watch me edit this photo and if you like it please give it a thumbs up and share it on Facebook.

This shot is a quite an old one from around 2012. Back then I had no idea about Lightroom and I was editing in Photoshop entirely. I was looking on this picture today and thought I can do better now and so I started playing with it.

Also, thanx to the courses I followed back in NZ where I’ve learned how to organize my files well so every time I want to find some old photos I know where to look for.

It was grey and not really a colorful day. So I went with black and white feel. There is no reason to push through colors that are not there…I like the result and have seen a lot of improvement on this image since the last edit so that I’ve decided to share it with you.

If you think it is a good image, please give it thumbs up and share it with friends so that your friends can enjoy it too!

Original size of this picture is 10610 x 3716 which is going to be a huge print. I like it!

Today I thought I would never make it to town. Busy day! Heavy rain with wind sometimes so strong that I couldn’t keep my tripod rock solid to take a descent shot. Vibrations and long exposure does not go together!!! This is my first panorama ever and as I’m learning how to do it and eliminate as much of a distortion I think I did quite a descent job on this one.

If you think it’s worth to give it a thumbs up, please do. Also share it on Facebook.

Also I’ve recorded my screen while editing this panorama. It is a quick overview of how I edited these photos.

Today I had 3 places in mind that could make a great photo. In the buinenradar.nl, their rain prediction was spot on! At 6:30 the rain was here. I waited until the rain stops and I hit the streets pumped up and excited to shoot. The ground looks 1000 times better after rain as it gives some great looking reflections. I was saying to myself what a perfect conditions these are for photos. I set my camera and took this shot.

Hope you like it too. If you do please share it with friends and give it a thumbs up.

Another beautiful day today! I had some spare time in the morning so I grabbed my camera and rushed to this place. The sky was clear. Walking in conditions like this brings back good memories from back home almost 10 years ago. It felt like coming back from a party early in the morning, except full of energy and ready to face a new day! The air was incredibly fresh and cold and so breathing deeply in conditions like this can really wake you up and it’s exactly what I would recommend to anyone. Not to mention the exercise you get when you are walking. I love it!

If you like this picture, please share it online and give it a thumbs up.

What a day today! At first it seemed like I would never get any time free and enjoy being on the Sun today, but then I managed to finish editing before 12 o’clock and went to work for a couple of hours. Later, the plan was to get picked up by 4 and go to Decatlon in Heerlen. All was fine until we left the shop and got hit by another car. Nothing too serious, just the car is damaged at the back.

Anyway, the day was amazing, the sunset was the type of a sunset I could look at forever. I hope you like this shot, if yes, please give it a thumbs up and share it on Facebook.
