Sittard City Center

I’m very excited to share with you this image as it is my third panorama of the city center in 140 days of this project and probably the most challenging one. I love the perspective of this image and how well the lines create the sense of space, is incredible to me. I’m so happy that I took the extra moment and decided to create this amazing panorama. Even I first thought this would take a miracle to execute it well.

This is the funny thing when creating panorama images, you don’t really know 100% how the outcome will look like. I had times when the pictures looked amazing and I thought I pretty much nailed it. Then I came home over excited, just to realize that the result wasn’t what I had in mind at all. It’s very unpredictable! Or may be it isn’t but I still haven’t cracked the core of the process…Another thing kept on my list that isn’t crossed yet.

Please let me know if you like this image. It keeps me motivated to create better and better images all year around…

Sittard – Kollenberg At Sunrise

Today was some sort of enlightenment day for me. I came to realize that through this journey of sharing a picture a day I’ve developed pretty strong and almost automated workflow which I’m modeling, reshaping with everyday try and errors. The more mistakes I make the biggest lessons I’ve learned!!!

The latest neuroscience studies show that it takes 66 days to develop a new habit. Not 21 as I used to believe or 30 but 66 days. I came to the point of no return. I now can’t image to miss a sunrise! It would be very frustrating, hard to deal with the fact that I may have lost the chance to create a photograph that could inspire others.

Also I’ve always believed that it takes some sort of talent and a special eye for photography that you have to born with. Well, I don’t believe it anymore, because I think ”talent” is developed by how much effort and hard work you are willing to put into learning and improving your skills. And how badly you want to be great at what you do! This applies to not only photography but anything in life in general. To become great at something you have to do what 95% of people would found uncomfortable to do. That’s how win it’s done!

But anyway just sharing my thoughts I had in the morning when taking this shot. I hope you like this image, please if you do give it a thumbs up…:)

Bagels & Beans – Putstraat

Another beautiful day today. I had this idea in the morning where I said to myself how many panoramas can I do in a window of 1,5 hour. My goal was 5. I got up early and headed into town. I was searching for spots that are normally impossible to fit into one frame. Like in this photo, you have one direction that goes to city center and the second that goes the other way. If you would stand at the same spot from where I took this image, you will have a problem to digest it all at once. That’s one of the reason why I like panorama images! Firstly, you can photograph objects that are otherwise impossible to fit into one frame and secondly you are capturing much higher details.

I love this process and I would like to encourage you to try it…If you get the change go for it, and please share it with me and others. I’m sure that are many who would like to see photograph of Sittard from someone else than only me…

Please if you like this image, share it with you friends and give it a thumbs up.

Sittard-Geleen Hospital

Today, the celebration is on! Good bye winter, welcome spring!!! I have to say that this was the mildest winter I have ever experienced in Europe. In fact It’s my first winter in Europe I haven’t seen any snow. But anyway, It was a fantastic day and I can only hope for more day’s like this! I got up early, took my bicycle and cycled down to see the Hospital again to specifically re-shoot this image. When I was taking this shot for the first time I forgot to check the ISO and it was at 3200 from the previous night. I noticed that too late. In fact it was light already and so today I went there again just for this shot.

Alright, I’m off to enjoy the rest of the night and celebration…I hope you like this image, please if you do give it a thumbs up…

136/365 Sittard Sabic At Sunset

Sittard Sabic At Sunset

Have you seen the Sunset today? I just came like one hour ago from a walk around west side of Sittard. I made this loop starting from train station, going to limbricht village and then along Hasseltsebaan. When I was approaching Brugstraat I still wasn’t sure from where I will capture the sunset. It looked so great that I wished to be a little higher of the ground.

The only place to get higher of the ground was around Sabic. So I didn’t worried to much and continued walking. When I was approaching Sabic the windows were reflecting the sunset and I was hooked. It looked great!!! I climbed on a little bank that separates the path between Sabic and Brugstraat and I have chosen this spot.

With 16mm lens there is no way that you can take a shot from being that close, so walked a bit back, but then I didn’t like the perspective of the building as it looked too small. All details seemed to fade out. The only choice was to do panorama. I took 9 shoots overlapping at 35%  without changing the aperture or shutter speed…It came out perfect.

I really like it. I hope you do too…Please if you do let me know and give it a thumbs up.

135/365 View Over Brandstraat Sittard

View Over Brandstraat Sittard

What a day today. Clear indication that spring is coming soon!!! In fact it felt like a spring today! It makes me happy whenever I get up early and I see clear sky like today. It doesn’t take long before I’m out, wondering around Sittard, looking for spots to photograph.

Today my plan was to make a loop, going through the city center and then all the way to kollenberg and back. I was also excited to try the Capture Pro from Peak Design which I ordered 2 weeks ago. It’s a small caring camera solution that would hold your camera on a backpack strap. I was looking for a solution like this for a long time, especially when I’m traveling or doing a short trip. I hate camera straps! They tend to slip from a shoulder or are too tight around the neck.

This caring solution is amazing. I used to put my camera away into my pocket or back to my bag. Whenever I would see something going on I would stop, take my camera out and shoot. This way I was loosing the action and it was annoying to take my backpack down all the time…

With Capture Pro I’m ready to shoot anytime! I saw birds coming closer to me today and I had my 55-210mm lens on. It was a matter of seconds to capture it. Normally I would miss the shot. Not with Capture Pro! Very good product, worth to check it out.

Reviewing the pictures later I liked this one the most. It was my first shot of the day. The sun wasn’t up yet, just about and I was going towards to the city center when I spontaneously decided to take few photographs from this place. It was beautiful and I love the colors in this picture.

I hope you like it too, please if you do, let me know, like it and share it with your friends.

134/365 Sittard Keutelbeek – Panorama

Sittard Keutelbeek – Panorama

It’s been a long time now I though about this place and how to fit it all into one photograph. If you go to this spot, you will have 180 degrees view to fit into one panorama. Not as easy as I thought this would be. First I tried it handheld and end it up with 9 images. It didn’t work at all. The distortion was too strong to correct it. Second try was ridiculous too and I started thinking that this is not going to be possible, unless I figure it out a different way how to do it.

After a research and watching endless video tutorials on youtube and vimeo, I went there again excited that this new approach might work. Instead of rotating the camera with my whole body and taking those pictures, I put tripod in front of me, unscrewed the head, set the camera into a time lapse mode to take a picture every 10 seconds and rather than rotate the whole camera around the center point I rotated the lens around the center. That worked great! Now, whenever I do a panorama I use L bracket so that I can keep the camera off the center.

I hope you like this image, please if you do, give it a thumbs up.

133/365 Sportcentrumlaan At Sunrise

Sony NEX 6, 16-50mm Sony lens

Sportcentrumlaan At Sunrise

It was a good idea to take this short walk to Sport Centrum. I left my place a bit later than I originally planed, but even then, I haven’t missed the action. My intention was to get a shot of a sunrise before dawn and posibly highlight some ordinary place. I haven’t got a single clue from where I will take a shot, but that changed as I was walking towards to the centrum. This road was appealing to me. It looks like there is something in a distance, almost like you can get closer to the Sun. The road to heaven/hell…I don’t know, but the instant idea was there and I implement it.

I’m still testing this plugin called HDR Pro for creating super RAW files which can be brought back to lightroom in 32 bit…Quite exciting to do 7 different exposures and combine them into such a massive file full of details and possibilities.

HDR is great because it mimics what human eye can see. Actually human eye can see up to 9 different exposures, the best experienced from your living room looking outside of a window. You will be able to see your interior and everything outside well exposed in the same time. If you try to do the same with your camera, one or other will be overexposed or underexposed. The same applies to Sunrise and Sunsets…You can never get the foreground and the sky perfectly exposed in one frame, unless you take multiple exposures…

But anyway, I hope you like this image, please if you do, let me know and give it a thumbs up.

Carnival Decoration

I love Carnivals! Everybody is having great mood, wherever you look you see these amazing costumes and decorations and in overall it’s so much FUN to celebrate!!! I had some EPIC night which I think I will remember forever. You know the days when you have your first beer and it tastes so good that you could drink 10 of them straight. And then there is this crystal clear liquid on the table called Vodka that is so tasty that you would like to drink it all. And you surrounded by people that are laughing, joking and having the best time of the life! It’s just phenomenal to be part of it…I’m glad that I’ve met some extraordinary people and spent fantastic time with them.

I’ve edited some photos from yesterday shooting, please have a look

I hope you like these images, please if you do leave a comment and give it a thumbs up…
