Limbright Fields At Sunrise

From the archive: February 14. 2017

I took this photo while cycling around Limbright.

Actually I was heading to the local woods for a morning ride on my mountain bike.

I picked this place for it’s leading lines that the rails created.

It was bitterly cold as you can imagine being out in the fields in the middle of February.

There was morning frost on the ground that added to the photo and the weather was clear.

What you see in the photo is actually a place about 1km behind the Limbricht Castle.

Open fields that stretch into the distance.

Great for sunrise photography!

Anyway’s…

Limbricht Castle And The Reflection Of The Frozen Lake

Few months ago I saw few intereting photos online that motivated me to go out and shoot reflections.

It was freezing outside so the first idea for a good photo that popped into my mind was the castle in Limbricht close to Sittard.

When I got there the lake around was frozen solid which reflected the castle beautifully.

As you can see from the photo, I was there early in the morning when the sky was clear.

Very important when you shoot reflections. The light is reflecting much better when the Sun is still low.

Anyway…

Taking the photo is one thing but to make the reflection stand out and bring the colors to life is another thing.

I was shooting in manual mode and RAW. Don’t even know why I’m bringing this up. It makes sense that if you want your photos look better you must shoot in RAW.

Anyway…

The magic always happens in Lightroom and then in Photoshop. That’s where you can bring the colors, select certain parts of the photo and boost that up.

Exactly what I did in this photo. I selected the water and played with the exposure to make it stand out a little.

If you don’t know how to do it, don’t worry. There is an amazing traning called the “Lightroom Mastery” where I believe (but don’t quote me on that) in lesson 9 or 10 Ben talls about the selection and how to use them. Pretty awesome stuff.

So there is no excuse for you to not be able to turn any photo into stunning image.

In fact, when you done with the training I believe you can make any photo look amazing…

Give Your Photos Life!

“Photography for me is not looking, it’s feeling. If you can’t feel what you’re looking at, then you’re never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your pictures.” — Don McCullin

So true!

You can literally take thausands of images but if none of them has certain wibe or feeling, it’s unlikely anyone will connect to it…

Shoot with your heart not your eyes…

Best,

Libor…

P.S. Give your photos life, so that people stop when they see your images… If it’s while they scrolling through their Facebook feed or on Instagram.

You could make your photos stand out if you follow these simple techniques Ben Willmore teaches in his amazing training…

Here is a link to it…

About the photo:

I took this photo in Limbricht village on the way to Born. It was a cold, frozen morning with the blue sky. I was waiting for the sunrise while taking few photos around…

Great Secret Of Exposure

Yesterday, I finished reading an amazing book from Bryan Preterson. He is a comercial photographer for over 35 years and has done photography assignments all over the world for many of the fortune 500 dollars companies, including Kodak, American Express, UPS, etc…

The book is called “Understanding Exposure” and it’s right on the money…

If you want to get deep understanding about the fundementals of photography, camera settings, etc… then this book is right for you.

Here are few golden nuggets I think every photographer (especially beginners) must know about, including the ones mentioned below…

– The number one “dirty little trick” for the best contrast and sharpness, and when to use it to get the most out of your photographs.

– How to use apertures and guarantee the background remains an out-of-focus tone

– What aperture creates an area of sharpness from three feet to infinity

– Everything you need to know about how to freeze an action or imply motion in your photographs.

– The number one thing photographers miss when shooting a sunset and how simple meter reading can improve your photographs when shooting snow, or a city at a dusk.

And there is way more…

I’m just scratching the surface here.

Brian has an interesting way of teaching and if you’re new to photography, this book is great for you…

It’s on amzon… Just google it…

Anyway…

The photo you see above has been taken after limbright village when I was going to Born.

I like that area for taking photos and will be back there when spring hits full force.

Best,

Libor

P.S. I was playing with Lightroom yesterday and found few settings that work so well with sunrise images that your photos could instantly see a massive improvenment… I might give away the preset next time.

Will see…

Leeuwerik Limbricht

Leeuwerik Limbricht…One day I went on a mtb ride to Belgium and on the way I made a stop in Limbricht village. I just turned into the Leeuwerik Limbricht and saw the Sun shining through the trees. It got me immediately. I stopped and watched the sunset until it was down behind the horizon.

Great sunset! I hope you like it…

Kasteel Limbricht

Kasteel Limbricht

This Kasteel Limbricht is amazing fun to photograph. Originally I went there to do a hyperlapse if this magical castle which was a success and then I took few photos.

For the first time i saw the Kasteel Limbricht I was hooked and also the area it’s just perfect playground for photographers looking to improve their photography skills.

I took few long exposure shots of this Kasteel Limbricht so that later I could combine them and create this amazing high resolution HDR shot. With 5 photos at different exposures, I had plenty of room for recovery. Especially the detail of the light bulbs that would be otherwise lost due to overexposure.

But anyways I hope you like the photo. I have few prints coming up in the next few days and I’m sure this one is going to be amazing because of the colors and the lights.

Limbricht Sunrise

Another early morning. I love being out there before the Sun comes up and before anyone is going to work or on a morning jog. The atmosphere is usually amazing. I love the freshness. This photo was more of a hunt for a good spot. I was thinking where to go for a sunrise or where I still haven’t been and Limbricht came to my mind first. There are few places I wanted to photograph but didn’t wanted to plan anything, just let it and see if I spot something along the way. I cycled on an open field just few meters from the road where I set up my tripod and waited for the Sun to come up.
